The most familiar drug for Parkinson's patients is "Medopar", which is one of the most commonly used drugs for Parkinson's disease. But what many people don't know is that some common foods in the daily diet may affect the efficacy of Medopar and even produce serious side effects. Today we will reveal the foods that cannot be eaten with Medopar to help Parkinson's patients better control their condition.

The first thing to be wary of is high-protein foods. Protein will compete with Medopar for intestinal absorption channels and reduce the absorption rate of drugs. Studies have found that a high-protein diet can reduce the bioavailability of Medopar by more than 30%. It is recommended to avoid eating high-protein foods such as meat, eggs, and dairy products within 1 hour before and after taking the medicine.

The second is foods rich in vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 will accelerate the metabolism of Medopar in the body, resulting in reduced efficacy. Bananas, potatoes, whole-wheat foods and other foods rich in vitamin B6 should be eaten with caution, and it is best to eat them at least 2 hours apart from taking medication.

Also pay attention to iron supplements and iron-rich foods. Iron ions will react chemically with Madopar to form insoluble complexes, which will affect drug absorption. Animal liver, spinach and other iron-rich foods should be avoided with Madopar.

Also be careful with caffeinated drinks. Coffee, strong tea and other caffeinated drinks will aggravate the side effects of Madopar, such as nausea and dizziness. It is recommended to reduce caffeine intake during medication.

The last thing to remind you is alcohol. Alcohol will enhance the sedative effect of Madopar, increase the risk of falling, and may also cause abnormal liver function. Parkinson's patients should strictly abstain from alcohol.
